Deidre's Story

I was diagnosed with Behcet's, Feb 1, 1999
We have come to realise that I actually had my firts minor flare when I was around 21 years old. I recently turned 41 on Sept 4 of this year two days after the death of my husband. My duaghter is now 17, but was diagnosed with diabetes at the gae of ten. I mention this only because of the fact that perhaps there may be some connection there, as related to the passing on of a defective gene, possibly. There is no history of either diabetes or Behcets in my family.

My maternal grandmother, now 93, has osteoarthritis, but no afflictions regarding any other illnesses. I have been treated over the years for fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis and rheumatoid vasculitis, mainly becuase three of the four clinical criteria were not present all at once, making diagnosis difficult.

I live in Cleveland, Ohio not far from the Cleveland Clinic, but I had no luck there when I sought treatment approximately ten years ago.
Presently I am fighting with social security for diability payments beuase of course I cannot work, am on many meds, and actually an grateful that as of yet, though there has been unbearble pain, I have a somewhat comparatively mild case of this disease.

Sincerely
Deidre Watkins
